Hi Alice,
Maths A-level is certainly a jump from GCSE and it is perfectly normal to find it tricky to start with. The pace at which you are learning new content has greatly increased and this can make it feel like it is difficult to keep up. I would recommend talking to your school to see if they can give you any additional support. Furthermore, there are some fantastic resources on YouTube that can help supplement your teaching. Finally, a tutor can be highly beneficial as they will be able to give you personalised teaching and support.
Good luck with everything!

According to ofqual the probability of getting an A* in maths a level 2024 is 16.7% In contrast in all subject a level 2024 , the probability of getting an A* is only 9.3% (around half the chance on getting an A* in an average subject)=> might implied that AL maths might be easier the a generic one (i would like to interpret the word "hard" as the probablility of achieving an A* )Personally speaking i would argue that AL maths is an objective subject that rely on candidate own time investment (perhaps by independent study or through tutoring)while being rewarding by itself.

Hi, you are not alone in finding it so challenging, many students feel the same way too. But there is always a way to solve this problem. Try and focus on underatanding the concepts rather than memorizing it, always practice and seek help when necessary, with time you will scale through it. You can also try studying with someone, maybe a tutor or a friend? Sometimes studying with someone can help you develop more rather studying alone.

That's the question moat people keep asking. But the fact is that, maths is the easiest , even the A-level maths. There can be no two answers for any maths question, the issue you need to understand about maths is that , all we try to do is find a solution (a path) from the question to the answer. So, take a step at a time, a right step, and you will always arrive at the answer. The basic too are important guide. Thanks

It can be tough at times, but revision is an essential part of succession with A-Level maths. New concepts can be challenging to grasp, but proper revision techniques could make it so much easier. I would recommend going into maths genie and doing topic questions until you’ve mastered a topic. Use your textbooks too. After you feel confident in that topic, take a topic test and see how you do. Remember to revisit these topics from time to time as you will begin to forget some things. I hope this helps.

Hi Alice! So sorry to hear that you're struggling - I definitely understand your situation. I fact I also recall having a bit of a hard time at some point back when I studied Maths A Level. I suggest you make a list of all the Maths topics and colour code them acording to your level of understanding. (Green for the ones you find easy, Yellow for unsure and Red for absolutely stuck, etc). Prioritise the Red topics by doing as many practice questions, and watching as many helpful videos on them as possible. I really recommend doing as many past papers as you can too, since the questions are very similar to the ones you will sit in your A Level exam. Also, the mark scheme is a brilliant guide as it demonstrates the steps to obtaining the answer. Maths Genie is an amazing website I used to use. It has plenty of resources, as well as its own Youtube channel.
I hope I have been if some sort of help Alice and I wish you all the best of luck with your studies! If you still have any questions ir doubts please do not hesitate to reach out :))

No Alice. A-level maths is not that tough with the right guide. You can easily become a maths genius if you study right and obey steps and principles of every question. Don’t forget you also need constant practice with several examples of each topic you learn. Lastly master your fear to tackle hard nut examples when learning by first trying hands on, then check which step you hard it wrong and why you had that step wrong.

I've had a couple times where I've struggled, but asking friends for an alternate way to understand the concept is one way I've been helped in the times I needed just an extra explanation to grasp it. I do this often for my friends during our lessons since the lessons sometimes go faster than our brains can totally comprehend the concept.

Maths alevel is definitely challenging, particularly in yr2. You have to learn new skills and ways of approaching questions that you usually wouldn't do in gcse. At the same time it can be easy as well. Don't feel too bad if you're finding it challenging, just focus on understanding the concepts and you should be ok.

A level maths really varied for a lot of people. It was an even split in class fo those who didn’t understand and those who did. Physics helped a lot in level maths but even if you don’t study, keep working hard and it will click. There’s a moment when it will all start making sense. Make sure to understand basics first before tackling difficult Qs

Well, the way in which A Level maths' questions are done is very different to GCSE unless you had a further maths/AS LEVEL component where you are introduced these ideas. Get some further maths GCSE notes to go through again to bridge that gap. Also the introduction of calculus can be overwhelming for the new student. Again your Further maths notes may help.

Hi Alice it can seem hard if your GCSE foundations are not well embedded. I teach Higher tier GCSE, face to face and online and always start A level ensuring that algebra and geometry in particular are reviewed. Make sure that you are able to do all the higher tier skills well - that will help your confidence with the new A level topics.

Yes, it is hard, but it can become manageable. So, this mostly comes down to practice and pattern recognition. Once you understand the concepts, you can begin practicing , questions. During practice, you want to find that sweet spot between easy questions and impossibly hard ones. That spot is where you're learning. It'll feel slightly uncomfortable while you do, but you'll make massive strides in progress.
If you would like a tutor, I am more than happy to provide my services and help you achieve the best grade you can!

First of all, there is no such things as hard or soft. Or from your perspective difficult or easy. The only problem you are facing right now is that you don’t understand the concept which is making your mind think it is an impossible thing to do. In-addition, you are giving that problem a nickname which is hard. Stop diverting your focus in to naming stuff and Start focusing in to the solution. The more you think positively the more it will be easy for you to deal with the failure. We never learn anything in an easy way. We always learn things according to our failures and despite being the failure we get ourself up and say, "I want to do it again until I get the success". Example : Elon Musk. Thank you for your patience for reading the comments. If you need any further queries please ask don't hesitate.

A-level Maths can be challenging, especially compared to GCSEs, because it requires a deeper understanding of complex concepts and problem-solving skills. However, how difficult it feels depends on your foundation in maths, your interest in the subject, and how much time you're willing to dedicate to studying. With consistent practice and a good study plan, many students find it manageable and even rewarding.
