The basics of piano chords is knowing what a triad is, knowing that you can build simple chords. A triad is the simplest chord you can play with your right hand on a piano, it is composed by the First, the Third and the Fifth. So for example: Let’s build a simple C Major Chord, The First note we are going to use is obviously C, which is our First in this case; then we count 3 notes ascending starting from it, so C (1) - D (2) - E (3). And there we have our Third and now we do the same up until we find our Fifth, so we count: E(3) - F(4) - G(5) and there we have it! Our Fifth will be G; now if you play them together with your right hand you’ll have a Cmajor! This principle applies to every chord and you can create as many Major chords as you want using this simple scheme. I hope this helps, don’t hesitate to reach out for a lesson if you want to go deeper into music theory!

Scales, scales, scales are the key to learning and transposing any piano chords. A chord is made up of a triad (3 notes), the first, third and fifth note of a scale. There are patterns to learning scales easily, and then finding your chords. Happy to help further if needed.

Each chord is based on a key, eg C major with no black notes. You find middle c with your right hand and play it with your thumb, then your 3rd and 5th fingers to make up the C major triad.
