I have been teaching the violin (and some piano) since the age of 19 as a music student in Glasgow. I completed a BA Music performance degree, then came south to study for an orchestral diploma in 1984, leading to freelance work, including nationwide tours with Scottish Ballet and Sadler’s Wells opera and playing other orchestras in the London area. I taught violin for ILEA and Croydon Borough before moving to the Brighton area and teaching violin/viola at Lancing College, Brighton College, Roedean, St Aubyns Prep school, Moira House, a 7 yr move to north Kent teaching at Brontë Prep school in Gravesend. Cobham Hall girls school, Dolphin Prep school in London and Trinity school in Sevenoaks. I have led a variety of orchestras in the Sussex area. I also enjoy improvising with a variety bands, and I can play by ear, a skill I am also happy to pass on.
I have now returned to Peacehaven for family reasons and hope to build up teaching in the area again.
I like to tailor my lessons to fit the student and to what they are keen to work towards, eg for enjoyment, face to face or remote exams. I use a variety of resources and have built up a good collection of music over the years. I have been very inspired and motivated by my excellent teachers in the past, so I am keen to pass on all I have learned and to hopefully inspire a new generation of musicians.
