Are 30 minute guitar lessons worth it?

Hello, I’m thinking about signing up for guitar lessons, but they’re only 30 minutes long. Are short sessions like these effective, or would I benefit more from longer lessons?

Hi Helen, I personally think that it depends on the tutor's ability to identify the best possible approach to teach the student how to play the guitar and the student's ability to grasp it. If the tutoring is tailored to the student's ability to grasp what is being taught, 30 minute lessons would be more than sufficient.

Unfortunately, a 30-minute lesson is not enough. A longer lesson is required for the student to understand and perform the subject.

I’ve been teaching for 19 years with mostly 30 minute lessons as this suits most peoples affordability. I’ve taken people to a professional level on a 30 minute lesson each week. It absolutely does work! If you can stretch your budget, longer lessons will get t you a lot better a lot quicker. But this does have to be coupled with increased practice. If you take a 30 minute lesson and practice 10 hours a week, you will get a lot better than taking a one hour lesson and practicing very little. Increasing your lesson time without decreasing your practice time will also also make you get better. I hope that helps!

Short lessons of 30 minutes are good fun and yes you would benefit. When you study with me it is jam packed with things to enjoy and learn. These lessons are valuable and can be beneficial in that what you learned lasts a lifetime. Sometimes my students book 45 minutes or an hour so we can cover 2 topics such as advanced theory for guitar or they are taking vocals and guitar both, so the time is split between theory, voice and guitar studies. If you are an ambitious fast learner then you will love 1 hour. I also assign homework so nothing is left out. Everything is covered in a way that makes sense. Cheers James Walsh

30 minutes worth of theory and 30 minutes of application would be best.
