Hi Ellie, It is impossible to suggest whether "you" can or cannot learn a language on your own, specially these days. It depends on your learning skills and your experience. The good thing about having a tutor would be the guidance you receive though that is also dependant on your tutor's skills. Being in a class could be a nurturing opportunity for those who are more often than not considered to be extroverts and favour social interactions. Generally speaking there is no Yes/No answer to such a question :) good luck.

Hi Ellie, You can excel with tutoring and support. For example, my writing skills and pronunciation improved when I attended the IELTS course. However, once you have attended the course, reading, listening, watching, and speaking with someone in English can help you improve in all the above mentioned skills.

Sure, If you are very dedicated you can learn it alone and be very good even. But joining classes can also be very helpful because your teacher can easily correct your mistakes or answer any questions you might have.

Yes, Ellie, learning is always on you. Always and many exercises, repetitions, repetitions. Learning a language involves studying which you do yourself, noone else does it for you. Ways of learning are different: on line, in classes, with f2f (remote) lessons guided by experienced tutors. I hope the above gives you the options for learning a language and confidence that you alone are to learn the language you wish to learn. Diana

Hi, Of course, almost everyone can learn a language on his/her own, yet the first stage might be challenging. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the true beginners have partners or friends to help them out. Anyway, even at this stage self studying is possible.

It’s not impossible to learn any language alone but it is hard because you need to observe the accent of that language only by having a conversation. Secondly spoken language is always a bit different from written language. I hope I have answered your question

You can always learn to speak English however you like. However if you are a shy person, it's nice to speak with someone who's more fluent in English as sometimes it's more easier to learn.

English, like any other languages, is a "living language" so it is always better to have a tutor to exchange tips and tricks to learn it n the best way.

Hello Ellie, of course it's possible to learn english on your own, just like me by watching a lot of videos full in english and try your best to not activate the subtitles and when there are words you heard for the first time just look for it in the dictionary, to improve your listening, writing and vocabulary skills and for the speaking practice don't hesitate to monologue in a funny way.

You cannot speak English on your own. It's better to take classes or find a tutor. If we say you do learn English on your own, you are going to require a translation and for one to be able to speak it, you going to need guidance.

Hi Ellie, My name is Ella. The best approach to learning English really depends on the level you want to achieve and the skills you're focusing on. For speaking, it's ideal to practice with someone regularly through daily conversations. This will help you become more comfortable and natural in real-life situations. For reading, especially if you're preparing for exams like IELTS, having a tutor and working with practice materials can be very beneficial. They can help you develop the necessary skills and strategies for the test. To improve your listening, I recommend regularly listening to podcasts. This helps familiarize you with different accents, speeds, and vocabulary in context. When it comes to writing, reading books is a great way to expand your vocabulary and understanding of sentence structure. However, having a tutor is also important, as they can provide feedback on your grammar and help you refine your writing style. Hope this helps!

Hi Ellie, learning English or any other language is like studying or mastering a new skill. It is not impossible or even very hard. If you have the passion, the drive, the energy and the confidence to learn it on your own, then go for it! Learning with a tutor has its advantages as well as its challenges. Someone who knows the language and has experience in imparting it to others can and often includes the culture, proper pronunciation, correct spelling and differences between types of English (US, UK etc.) and many other things. It also means a schedule, a focus on what you will learn from the teacher and in some cases certification and a means of progressing to higher levels through courses and programmes and measuring your performance. In the end it is about what you want. The choice is yours and yours alone.

No, you cannot learn to speak English, or any other language alone. The myth that you can learn if you live in an English speaking country is just that...for various reasons1. in an English speaking country you are not alone, but surrounded by English speakers2. if you want to learn to speak correctly, smoothly and professionally, you need a tutor, a teacher or a coach.

There are online apps like iTalk where you can find people to speak to. Speaking is about interaction. Having said that, you could have a conversation with yourself. If you are alone, you could pretend to be two people. Create a conversation in your mind and try it. However, this should be just one part of your learning plan.

You can use workbooks and lots of website and apps that can help you with speaking English. I think you can learn English on your own but a teacher would be helpful in case you have questions. I feel teachers build confidence in you and help you step out of your comfort zone.

To learn a language you need 3 things: 1. Motivation 2. Exposure to the language (reading & listening) 3. Practice (writing & speaking) If you can't do any of these on your own, then you should look for lessons. Most people need both self-study and lessons, the balance depends on the person.
