Here are my three top tips I'd like to share with you that'll make sure you're preparing for your English exam in a way that's effective and guaranteed to give you the top results you're after. These tips won't leave you feeling overwhelmed!
- Know exactly what the examiner wants you to do for each question on the exam paper. The last thing you want to do in an exam, when time is limited, is to write about things that will not get you any marks. My favourite term for being specific about what the examiner wants from you is 'Fish for the marks'. That's what I was told when I was taking my GCSEs.
- Produce revision material that can, at a glance, remind you of what to do for each question on the exam paper. When creating your revision material, remember that we each have learning styles so your revision material needs to reflect yours. If you're a visual learner, be sure to put your revision material up, around your room, in the house so that you can keep looking at it. There are a range of ideas for revision material but the key is to make sure it reminds you of exactly what you need to do for each question on the paper.
- Find yourself a great novel and start reading. Our brains are like sponges; they soak up everything we're reading and will give you the vocabulary and richness of language that you can use in the exam.
