Advert description
I have a PhD from the University of Cambridge, a BA from the University of Oxford, TESOL certification and 22 years’ experience as a tutor and lecturer.
I am a prize-winning writer and Associate Professor in English Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Greenwich, London, where I direct the MA in Creative Writing and am responsible for admissions. I know first-hand what separates a successful university application from an unsuccessful one, as well as how to write a first-class essay and / or creative literary piece.
I have been tutoring students privately for 22 years (GSCE, A-level and beyond) and lecturing at universities for 16 years, including at both Oxford and Cambridge universities.
Throughout my career, I have helped hundreds of students attain first class Bachelors and Masters degrees, as well as guide writers to publication of their first books.
My expertise involves teaching students of varying age groups and abilities: from GCSE pupils to postgraduates, mature (retired) learners and first-time writers. Whether it's bridging gaps in basic literacy, introducing beginners to poetry or examining PhDs, I have done it all!
I firmly believe that, with the right guidance, anyone can learn to love and understand literature and to write well: clearly, creatively and with maximum impact. I maintain exceptionally high standards in my lessons, but I am also compassionate, approachable and committed to my students’ welfare.
The breadth and depth of my literary knowledge sets me apart from other tutors: I have taught literature from the medieval period to work published yesterday, and my teaching methods never fail both to inspire a love of learning and to get results.
