Certified secondary science teacher - from cells to ecology, I can help you understand biology

Advert description
I hold a Bachelor of Science in biology, which I received with the highest honors along with two minors in chemistry and international studies. During my undergraduate years, I worked as a research assistant in a lab that investigated the physiological, ecological, and evolutionary factors contributing to alternative reproductive tactics in bluegill sunfish.

Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Science in psychological sciences at University College London, with a focus on psychology in education. My dissertation work explores whole child development in education for children with emotional and behavioral difficulties.

As a certified secondary science teacher, I taught environmental science, biology, and research methods in Atlanta, GA for three years. I am proud to have worked with both general education and special education students, tailoring my approach to accommodate diverse learning needs. During this time, I also designed environmental science curricula and assessments at the school and school-district levels, fostering engaging and effective learning experiences.

Additionally, I have six months of valuable experience tutoring university-level students in various science subjects, including introductory biology, zoology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics. During this time, I personalized the educational experience for each student, gaining insights into their individual learning styles and preferences.

In my lessons, I prioritize interactivity and engagement. I connect the material to students' interests through analogies and real-life examples, making it relatable and meaningful. I use both low and high-ordered thinking questions to foster critical thinking. Informal assessments help me gauge student understanding and they also help students learn and gain awareness of their own knowledge of the material. I also aim to emphasize the bigger picture to highlight the practical relevance of the subject matter. Overall, my goal is to create an interactive and relevant learning environment that inspires students' passion for learning.

Through my education, teaching, and tutoring experiences, I possess extensive knowledge of various pedagogies, equipping me to identify individual students' learning needs and design effective strategies to help them achieve their academic goals.
