Lisa Smirnova was born in 1996 in the Ukraine. She studied at the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture in Kyiv, at the Faculty of Fine Arts, majoring in monumental painting. She was a member of the STO art group. Studied at KAMA (Kyiv Academy of Media Arts), majoring in contemporary art and Method Fund courses.
The artist Lisa Smirnova combines different eras and trends in her work. From avant-garde to comics; from Soviet monumental art to political actionism. In her conceptual studies, she creates a new "mythology" that can be found in various genres and techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpture, stained glass and video. During her studies at the National Academy of Arts and the Kyiv Academy of Media Arts, Lisa developed an expressive visual language, which in our time, in times of great change, social polarization and a pandemic, is becoming especially relevant. Her visual style is very diverse, even partially eclectic. He organically absorbs the traditions of Ukrainian painting, and its fascination with the Soviet avant-garde and German expressionism, and an attentive attitude to the collage of painting and graffiti. The palette of paintings in the south is bright and juicy, sometimes even industrial -rough, almost poster, with a deliberately incorrect pattern. Although in other works, as a rule, on the eastern theme, Lisa demonstrates the reverse technique, precise and subtle transitions, the tenderness of halftones, graphic clarity.
