I use a clear format for my lessons so students have consistency and feel at ease even when they are being taught a new topic or subject. I start my lessons with a recap of the previous lesson and answer any questions if the student is struggling to understand something they have looked at through revision or homework. I introduce the topic using videos, animations and clear bullet points that can be easily adapted into revision notes. I then use the last part of my lesson to show how the topic can be applied to real life for example, what would Jane Eyre's daily routine look like, how does An Inspector Calls apply to society today? I value the tutor and tutee roles equally and I believe it is important to create a positive and respectful atmosphere in the lesson space; therefore I collaborate with my students and ask for feedback on my resources, PowerPoints and teaching style so they feel comfortable expressing if they want more colour, pictures, a bigger font size or glossaries with key terms. No matter what ability or confidence you are starting off with, I believe with patience, understanding and consistency, all students can thrive and achieve the grades they want.
