Studying at the University of Edinburgh, our speciality is analytic philosophy which is an approach I bring into my lessons. I find that focusing on logical deduction and validity of arguments is a great method to break down concepts into digestible pieces, and also allows the student to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different arguments with explicit reasoning.
My lesson format will typically consist of an introduction to a theory or concept, a short biography about its author (as I find it's conducive to know a bit about the context behind an idea through knowing the person who came up with it), an elaborated explanation, analysis, evaluation and comparison and contrast with other relevant theories.
Another major aspect of my tutorage will be an emphasis on self comprehension. I set homework questions or short essays every week to be completed for the following session, and the aim of the assignments is to allow my students to process and apply what I've guided them through, for constructive feedback the following week. This will help develop your essay writing skills in preparation for exams, and allow you to consolidate your knowledge.
Though my format may sound quite uniform, I am in fact very flexible. One of my best qualities is ease of communication, and I am able to adjust and tailor my lessons to fit the needs of any student. With me, my student's success is the priority, so I will be attentive in recognising the most appropriate ways to deliver content to be as comprehensive as possible.
