I’m taking GCSE exams with both AQA and Edexcel, and I’m wondering if the grade boundaries for these exam boards in 2025 have been announced yet. Do they usually differ between boards, and how can I check them?

Grade boundaries for all the exam boards will be announced after all the papers are marked, and it depends on the students performance (this is an indication of hard and easy in exams); hence no one knows anything about them at this stage.

It totally depends on exams difficulty level and performance of students. If more students will get high percentages so grade boundaries will go up, otherwise down. In different exam boards, grade boundaries usually don't differ much, even if there is a difference it'll be of 1 or 2 percent higher for edexcel as compared to AQA.

Grade boundaries for GCSE exams in 2025 haven’t been announced yet. They are typically published by exam boards like AQA and Edexcel on Results Day itself, which will be Thursday, 21 August 2025. These boundaries can differ slightly between boards because each one sets them based on the difficulty of their specific exam papers and the performance of students that year.

Grade boundaries are only published after the exams and they change for every exam, every year, and every exam board. The boundaries are based on students' performance in each exam. Until the raw marks are analysed, examiners don't know if the exam was harder, or easier, than they intended. Adjusting grade boundaries compensates for any accidental variations in the difficulty of the exams.

Hi Alice, it will be based on the performance of individual papers and qualifications within the series.

You cannot check. They are revealed after the exam. I have marked exam papers for all of them. Examiners do not know the grade boundaries. They just mark the papers according to the mark scheme. The grade is awarded afterwards.

Hi Alice!
Typically with grade boundaries, they deviate by around one or two marks either way of the previous year. Grade boundaries don't really change that drastically year upon year, unless there has been a big change e.g COVID affected grade boundaries quite alot (however you should be fine in 2025 as they have pretty much equilibrated by now). You can also look at patterns in grade boundaries over the years in the subjects to see how they have changed over the years which will give you a good indication of how they will be this year too.
Hope this helps!

Hello, Alice! Grade boundaries don’t get published until August on GCSE results day. After the exams have been sat, certain websites or channels try to predict the grade boundaries but the actual ones aren’t posted until results day. Hope this helps!

Yes, grade boundaries can differ between exam boards. Each board sets its boundaries independently based on:
-The difficulty of the papers in that specific exam session.
-Student performance, using statistical models and examiner judgment.
-Maintaining fairness and consistency across years and boards.
