Skills and Experience:
• Extensive Subject Knowledge: PhD in Chemistry from Concordia University and a Master’s in Nanotechnology.
• Teaching Experience: Over 6 years of teaching at the university and high school levels, including 5 years as a teaching assistant for undergraduate and graduate students, and current teaching experience at Alexander Academy.
• Mentorship and Supervision: Supervised and mentored students in experimental design, lab safety, and scientific research.
• Strong Communication Skills: Proficient in explaining complex scientific concepts clearly and concisely, with a focus on engaging and motivating students.
• Classroom Management: Effective in creating a structured, positive learning environment, with clear rules and expectations (e.g., no cell phones policy).
• Technology Integration: Proficient in using PowerPoint, Canvas, and other digital tools to enhance learning and track student progress.
How I Will Teach:
1. Engage: I start by capturing students’ interest with real-world examples, demonstrations, or thought-provoking questions to make the lesson relevant and exciting.
2. Explain: I present key concepts using a mix of clear explanations, visual aids, and step-by-step walkthroughs. For ELL students, I include simplified explanations, key vocabulary, and pronunciation guides.
3. Apply: I provide hands-on activities, experiments, or practice problems that allow students to apply what they have learned in a practical context. This could include lab experiments, group discussions, or problem-solving tasks.
4. Reflect: I encourage students to reflect on their learning through discussions, exit tickets, or short written reflections, helping them consolidate their understanding and identify areas for improvement.
5. Differentiate: I tailor my teaching to meet the needs of diverse learners by offering varied instructional strategies, including one-on-one support, after-school tutorials, and scaffolded tasks.
6. Assessment and Feedback: I use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, providing timely, constructive feedback to help them improve.
