Advert description
I have had over 35 years' experience of home tuition in a wide range of subjects. However, I now concentrate primarily on mathematics. I am university educated with a BA (Hons) Degree, Masters and PGCE. I have taught in a range of settings Higher Education, College, Secondary Education, Adult Education, Business and Primary Education over a career of over 35 years.
I retrained to teach mathematics via a number of qualifications and courses, including Return to Teaching, City and Guilds Level 5 for Adult Numeracy Subject Specialists, "A" Level and Teacher Training in post GCSE Mathematics at Southampton University.
I have taught mainly face-to-face, but for the last three years have taught primarily online using Zoom, which has an online whiteboard and writing tools. My main goals are to help students feel relaxed about their learning, whatever their ability and to build their confidence. It's really important that students can ask me about any learning problems, however silly they may seem. The best lessons are often when my student can tell me what they don't understand and we tackle those issues.
All materials from the lesson are saved on Dropbox, Google Drive or One Drive and shared with the student. If preferred, the materials can be emailed. I use a variety of websites, both free and subscription, which have suitable learning materials and exercises, and which can be shared via Zoom.
In my first meeting with students, I aim to find out how they feel about the subject, how they like to learn, what they feel are their strengths and weaknesses, and this helps me form a program of lessons. Although lessons are always carefully planned, I am always willing to tackle something that has just cropped up between lessons that is more urgent.
I really hope that I can help you on your learning journey!
