Advert description
As music is such a broad subject, each session that Alex has delivered has been driven by his students, so that he can focus on which specific aspect of the syllabus they require his tutelage with. His sessions are informal and light-hearted, to put his students at ease and encourage their creative flare.
Alex has specific tutoring experience in:
1-to-1 in-person tutoring in A-Level Music Composition and Theory:
He has tutored a range of students who have required assistance in all areas of their A-Level Music programme, including composition, set works, essay questions, listening questions and aural skills.
Classroom experience in tutoring GCSE and A-Level Music:
He worked closely with the music department of a large high school and offered support to GCSE and A-Level students here. He delivered 1-to-1 support with compositions, performance recordings and wider classroom tutorials in A-Level set works.
About Alex:
Alex is a working freelance musician. He has been fully immersed in the world of music since his own A-Level education. Having first picked up a keyboard at the age of 7, he has gone on to play for ensembles throughout the UK, and also pursues his own compositional and arranging projects.
After completing A-Level Music with an A grade, Alex went on to study a degree in Music at the Reid School of Music at the University of Edinburgh. Here he focussed mainly on composition, studying with Peter Nelson and Stuart McRae, but also excelled in modules based on aural and essay tests.
Alex has received acclaim and awards for his compositional and aural abilities. These include winning the 2014 Emre Araci and the 2016 Edinburgh University Brass Band Composition Competitions.
