Advert description
Who am I?
I am a holder of a masters degree in philosophy, foundation year tutor for Keele university on the Foundations of Humanities 2 module and the Introduction to Philosophy module. I was also the president of the Keele university philosophy society for 3 semesters.
What can I teach?
My fields of interest are broad but I focus particularly on philosophy of mind, philosophy of like (such as ancient philosophy like the Stoics and Epicureans) and philosophical counselling. but I can of course teach a wide range of philosophical topics from the "western canon" of philosophy such as ethics (Kant's deontology, Mills and Bentham's utilitarianism), I can teach metaphysics (universals and particulars, philosophy of mind and free will vs determinism), epistemology (a priori vs a posteriori, descartes evil demon and the philosophy of science such as the problems of empiricism) and I can also teach some religious philosophy (the problem of evil, Pascal's wager and design arguments). I also enjoy discussing contemporary philosophical issues such as AI philosophy (is AI a threat to humankind? Can AI be "conscious"?, what does it mean to be conscious? What impact will AI have in the long term for human civilization?), medical philosophy (euthanasia, abortion and individual rights to body parts), transhumanism (what does it mean to be human? can we transcend our biological limits?) and political/economic philosophy (capitalism vs socialism and freedom of speech). I am also capable of teaching basic formal logic (how to structure and argument, what is a fallacy? Deductive vs inductive arguments).
What I CANNOT teach:
I cannot teach advanced formal logic, I cannot teach the philosophy of mathematics, I cannot teach law and I cannot teach philosophy of language or advanced epistemology.
How do I teach?
My lessons can be catered to the individual needs of the student. If for example, a student prefers a strict lecture format with recommended reading and tasks I can easily provide this. or if a student prefers a casual discourse where we have an engaging conversation about the topics they wish to learn more about then, I can provide this also.
I believe people learn in a variety of ways and I am comfortable adjusting to one's individual learning styles.
