I will cater my teaching process to each individual that I am tutoring in a highly person-centred way, creating a programme to suit them and their needs and goals.
Given my background in community work and education as well as my diversity training, I understand the need to tailor a programme to suit the individual, taking into account their age, comprehension level, personality type and what interests they have. For instance, I could engage a teenager with poetry through asking what his or her favourite musicians are and dissect the chosen artists' lyrics to find out why they are so impactful for my student.
I am skilled in public speaking as a former radio show host for a literary radio show and as a vocalist that regularly performs in venues of up to 500 people. As such, I have the ability to communicate clearly in an engaging and enthusiastic manner.
I will plan my sessions based on having an in-depth conversation with each student to find out what their goals are, what they struggle with, and for instance, what exam board there school or college uses. From this point onwards, I will plan their sessions with their goals in mind and will make sure to state clearly the objectives of each tutoring session so that there is a sense of forward momentum and clear structure for my students to follow that adheres to their learning journey.
