Advert description
I have a master's degree in art history from University of St Andrews. My field of research includes history of printing, Arts and Crafts movement, material culture, as well as history of design and architecture. Historic periods that I have focused on in particular are-(history of printing), and-I am also very interested in studying the relationship between technology and art and how both inform one another. At the same time, I can provide a broad overview of art movements and periods in a chronological order.
My approach to teaching about art history consists of discussing art outside of its own 'bubble' and provide as much historic context as possible, as it depicts how intertwined art is with political and societal changes. This allows the student to develop a greater appreciation for an artist's work and understand its relevance to history on a larger scale.
I have considerable experience in a capacity as a tour guide around exhibitions in galleries for a variety of audiences, including art connoisseurs, as well as novices. I have also co-hosted an art history programme on the university's radio whereby me and my colleague presented different artists, themes and movements from an accessible angle.
I am fluent in four languages, including English and Italian, apart from my native languages, Ukrainian and Russian. I often use my intrinsic aptitude for linguistics to delve deeper into the history of art by discovering the etymology of terms, in order to have a better understanding of how languages shape our culture in a wider sense.
