I have a master's degree in art history from University of St Andrews. My field of interest includes history of printing, Arts and Crafts movement, material culture, as well as history of design and architecture. In my research, have focused on historic periods including Early Modern Period (history of printing), Britain during late Victorian period, and fin-de-siecle Europe. At the same time, I can provide a broad overview of art movements in a chronological order.
I also have considerable experience in a capacity as a tour guide around exhibitions in galleries for a variety of audiences, including art connoisseurs, as well as novices. I have worked on the university's radio, co-hosting an art history segment, whereby I delivered engaging content to the public on a weekly basis.
My approach to teaching consists of discussing art outside of its own 'bubble' and provide as much context as possible, as it depicts how intertwined art is with political and societal changes. This allows the student to develop a greater appreciation for an artist's work and understand its relevance to history on a larger scale. I also focus on the physical aspects of art: the pigment that is used in paints, its history and whether it can tell a more interesting story about the artwork.
I also believe in the benefits of practicing art, while studying it. The aim is not to re-create a masterpiece, but to have a better understanding of the artist's thinking and vision behind it.
I will bring an adaptable approach to classes, in order to design a curriculum that aligns specifically with a student's needs, whether it's academically orientated (focus on structuring essays, developing complex arguments) or lifestyle learning (selecting art periods that the student is keen on and exploring them at depth).
