Advert description
Most importantly - I always make sure my maths lessons are good fun. Otherwise you will not look forward to the lessons or pay attention and won't learn anything. I fully empathise with students who really struggle with maths.
I studies Maths, Physics and Chemistry to first year degree level at Aston University as part of my engineering degree in Metallurgy (the study of metals).
I taught Statistics and A Level Applied Maths in evening classes at Reading College and have given private maths tuition on and off for the last 25 years. Many of my students have gone on to obtain exam marks over 95% - in one case 100%.
I have also volunteered as a GCSE maths teaching assistant at Guildford College.
My approach is to first make sure whether you like maths or whether it is a necessary evil for you, on a scale of 1 (hate maths) to 5 (love maths). Then I will assess your overall ability, emphasising that I am not with you to judge at all but to help you.
I will ascertain the part of maths (usually but not necessarily Algebra or Trigonometry or Simultaneous Equations) with which you struggle most. I will take as long as is necessary with you to make sure you fully understand that, including the standard terminology used which can be confusing if you are not familiar with it. When you are 100% confident, we will move on to other parts of the maths syllabus.
I look forward to meeting and helping you.
