Hello, my name is Richard. I have 5 years of professional teaching experience in math and English Language Arts with 8-11 year olds in the United States. I am based in Europe and looking to work with students virtually. Currently, I am exploring and honing in on the most effective ways to engage and help children learn virtually. I can work at almost any hour to help your child grow as a reader or mathematician. I do hold high expectations, but I can be a lot of fun as well. I love joking around and talking about my two toddlers. I know things are going well when my students have a smile on their face by the end of class.
My lessons are mostly on Nearpod and Google Meets where I guide my student through a standard and we practice problems together to better understand what we need to learn. I always ensure my students practice reading, even if we make mistakes. These mistakes are how we can grow. As we answer questions on a text or solve a math problem, we always have to work to explain why we thought what we thought. That way, we can better make the case we want to make about subjects we are passionate about. Lessons usually end with a game on Blooket where we can use our new skills to get a high score or to beat the teacher. I am always mindful of how long a child can stay focused and try to ensure my lessons are short and sweet. I do not want to have a child listen to me go on and on for more than 10 minutes. I also try to mix in a variety of activities within a lesson. That way, my virtual students are engaged with learning and able to grow during the time we are together.
