Advert description
I teach the subjects I love: English and maths. I help students build confidence with KS3, GCSE and in preparation for the 11-Plus entry exams. And if you’re resitting in November, let’s work together to reignite your results.
I came to tutoring later in life, five years ago. Before this, I had built a 25-year career working in marketing, after graduating with a BA(Hons) in Performing Arts (Drama).
I am also a theatre critic and run my own marketing consultancy and copywriting business.
Though there will be many tutors with more teaching experience, I think that not spending my life working in education is a positive thing for students. I'm able to bring a real-life perspective to the subjects that's not just taken from a textbook. I can contextualise learning and explain the value of topics far beyond how to answer an exam question.
My students appreciate me talking to them like a person who has lived a life outside of a classroom.
If there's a particular topic that's bothering you, or if you've got a tricky homework assignment, let me know and I can put together a personalised lesson.
For longer learning, I have a lesson programme designed to improve core skills, important not only for exams, but for life.
- Learn from lessons developed in line with the DofE’s Assessment Objectives, not specific exam boards.
- See how skills are important for life beyond exams.
- Cover the pathway topics that help pupils become more confident in the subjects
- Be able to access many other topics in the curriculum.
I also volunteer as a tutor with Action Tutoring, a charity focussed on tackling the attainment gap. I think it is important to use the skills we have to give something back to the society around us. In 2023/24, I was proud to have been awarded Volunteer Tutor of the Year by the charity.
