Advert description
I have a degree in Classical, Archaeological Studies and Comparative literature with A Levels in English Literature and Language and I have been a private tutor throughout my degree.
I understand how intimidating course texts, key phrase and embedded quotes are and I would like to help you break down the complex concepts and have you as comfortable with Sassoon as with Shakespeare!
Typically, I prefer to begin by assessing where your progress is against the Exam board's specification through short quizzes and memory tests then developing into exemplar exam responses and longer word forms. This could mean chatting through the definition of pathetic fallacy and its importance to the plot of Tess of the d'Urbervilles or how to use a key quote from A Streetcar named Desire for maximum impact in Section B of a GCSE exam paper.
A session would start with a short key words test, looking at definitions and context. We would then likely open a discussion of most recent homework/classwork submissions and ending with dissecting a passage of text within the course and chatting through what initial thoughts/challenges/ideas you have.
As a tutor my main focus is helping prepare you for your exams but as a English nerd myself I would also like to work to find an area of reading/writing/scripting/performing/analysing that you would also enjoy!
I look forward to having a chat!
