My goal is always to get students armed to play at their current level with total independence--I leave students able to decipher music without assistance, and then use some of our tutoring time to merely offer critiques and fix slight mistakes they've made after making their own attempts. I discuss theory in a conversational, entertaining manner to allow students to think with the mind of a teacher for full subject-independence, before moving into practical execution in a light-hearted and balanced way. In technical practice, I offer insights into how a student can self-reflect and learn approaches for independent improvement when they are not in the presence of a tutor. I focus on "quality over quantity" to ensure students can get the most mastery with as little homework as possible to maintain student motivation and enthusiasm.
