I have been a history teacher at University and Secondary level (including IGCSE and IB History) for over 15 years. Since the pandemic I have been giving extra classes online to students preparing for exams (IB, IGCSE or end of year) as well as preparing video classes for the Universidad Nacional de Rio Negro in Argentina (where until recently I was working and living). I have also been a IB examiner since 2015. Previously I taught British history first year courses at both the University of Westminster and the Metropolitan University as well as an introduction to British history course to foreign students hoping to start at the latter university in the following year.
I aim to make classes as enjoyable as possible, without losing sight of the need to help the students reach a high level of understanding not simple of the subject, but why it is important they study it. Classes are tailored to the needs and demands of students, with knowledge and understanding being built up from the basic to the advanced. The key themes and concepts involved in each area are defined and their interrelation explained (where necessary), causes and consequences identified and explained as well as looking at ideas of change and continuity. Classes includes quizzes, powerpoint presentations and videos where necessary to keep student interested and actively involved.
