Discovering Dates and Memorizing Masters: The Relevance of Art History

Advert description
As a Master of Art History, I have had the fortunate experience of collaborating with, assisting, and nurturing the practice of art history amongst peers and students for the past four to five years. As a graduate in the study with degrees from New York University and The Courtauld Institute, I studied art history and its relevant practices in urban settings of plentiful art historical resources as well as competitive settings of interdisciplinary cooperation such as archaeological expeditions and international art fairs.
Today, in a world of increasing resources and competitive education, the arts no longer take a back seat. However, they do get permeated with a large of amount of misconceptions and shortcuts, such as the use of art merely for the sake of superficial pleasure and conversation. The power of art history lies in its all-encompassing ability to teach independence and life skills through the simple practice of storytelling. By memorizing the dates, lives, and methods of masters and artists gone by, students automatically adopt habits of critical thinking and proactive inquisitiveness as they learn to connect the dots between brushstrokes and political intentions, pigments and trade, and collections and private wealth. Writing, speaking, and presentation are all covered skillsets since art history is, by nature, a discipline that requires constant usage and questioning of decided canonical terminology as well as methodical presentation of the results of such questioning. Further yet, students learn the joy of preserving and disseminating information through not just words and arguments, but images and cultural projects. It truly is a field that melds art and science together, and will allow young individuals with various interests to come together and discover both themselves and the world around them.
With my diverse skillset in the field, as well as the personal desire to share and teach, I look forward to meeting the local audience of London historians-to-be with steadfast enthusiasm. Get ready to discover dates and memorize masters in the name of learning history for the present!
