IELTS Trainer and Examiner with over ten years experience

Advert description
I’m an all-rounder, having taught a wide variety of ages, nationalities and levels over the years (15 in total) in a range of settings, but my speciality is in the field of IELTS - I spent 5 years teaching IELTS at tertiary level and have held IELTS examiner status for the British Council (Writing & Speaking Tests) for a number of years. In addition to this, I’ve also taught business English, EAP and ESP courses in both online and classroom formats. I particularly enjoy teaching speaking classes and I’m a competent teacher of pronunciation.

I enjoy free-flowing classes with lots of interaction and I have the ability to strike up a good rapport with my students. Having said this, I also have strong classroom management skills and the ability to keep students on task when necessary.

I have a BA in Modern History, a CELTA and I am currently studying for an Oxford Trinity Diploma in TESOL
Grant Chenery in a nutshell
I have twenty years experience as an English Language teacher and I have taught the full range of levels and ages during that time. I believe in guided instruction rather than following a text book and I believe that the best results come from allowing students to have a large degree of autonomy in terms of their learning experience. For example, I will generally start the lesson with, "So, what...
I have twenty years experience as an English Language teacher and I have taught the full range of levels and ages during that time. I believe in guided instruction rather than following a text book and I believe that the best results come from allowing students to have a large degree of autonomy in terms of their learning experience. For example, I will generally start the lesson with, "So, what would you like to learn today?" This not only allows the student to have more flexibility in what they learn, but it also instills a sense of responsibility for their learning outcomes. In addition to this, I encourage students to express their own opinions and ideas rather than follow what I believe - my job, I believe, is to give my students the tools that they need to express themselves clearly and logically in English. With this approach, I have taken students from an overall Band Score 5 in the IELTS Test, through to Band Score 8. Once my students have achieved their desired score, I'm then on hand to help them with their university applications, personal statements and coursework if needed.
