Retired sales and business development manager (medical devices and chemicals) with fluent French plus 18 years EFL experience in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

I have set up an ESOL course in a Nelson-based charity for refugees and asylum seekers in east Lancashire and found 10 qualified teachers (plus 3 teaching assistants) to teach small classes of asylum seekers and refugees in a local library. As well as face-to-face teaching, we train the students to use the app that accompanies the chosen coursebook so that they can work by themselves between lessons. We have just been granted funding by Lancashire CC for our ESOL programme. I have also found volunteers throughout the north to buddy with our students on a 121 basis on WhatsApp. This kind of teaching enables more tutoring in the comfort of their homes without the hassle of travel. I could easily do the same in EFL, French and my degree subject (chemistry).
