First Class Durham University Graduate, experience in tutoring with a passion for making Literature accessible and exciting

I have a first class degree in English literature from Durham University. I have experience teaching English as a volunteer, being a dramaturg for Shakespeare plays in secondary schools and working in a school. My parents and siblings are teachers and tutors and I have learned skills and techniques from them. My passion is to make the study of literature active, fun and therefore easily understandable. For too long the way literature is taught makes the subject seem inaccessible, I want to encourage my students to bring their own creativity to the subject and also to show how literature is an area of endless possibilities. I am a very experienced and practiced writer who excels in helping students with sentence structure, argument construction and the tools for formulating brilliant sounding points. If you want simply to excel in exams I’m the right person for you, I achieved 98% at A level, A* at GCSE and a first class degree in the subject. But if you want to take your passion for literature further, that’s where I excel. I deeply enjoy the study of literature and my passion is infectious. As a teacher I am clear, inspiring and above all very easy to talk to and get along with.

As well as Literature I have an MA in Acting. If you are interested in the dramatic side of English then I’m also the person to go with. I’m also a semi-published poet so if you need help understanding the genre - or in creative writing - then I’m also the person for you
