Advert description
I am a qualified science teacher with over 20 years of experience in education. I hold a degree in Applied Biology and for the past nine years, I have been teaching A-level Biology and BTEC level 2 and 3 Biology and Chemistry units in a further education college. Prior to that, I taught GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Combined Science in secondary schools. I have also worked as an external examiner and can provide advice on improving exam techniques.
I have always maintained a positive approach to teaching and have built strong relationships with my students, which has allowed me to motivate and support them through challenging times. I take pride in preparing fun, interactive, and innovative lessons that simplify difficult concepts. I quickly adapted to online teaching during the Covid pandemic and adapted several investigations so they could complete practical work at home. I am a strong believer in the importance of practical work to cement the understanding of concepts in Science.
I continually formatively assess students, adjusting my teaching methods to enable them to understand and ultimately reach their goals.
As the Lead Teacher for A-level Science Practical Endorsement visits, I developed simple resources to help students demonstrate the required competencies. Additionally, as the Lead Internal Verifier for BTEC Applied Science, I can advise students on how to achieve distinctions.
In my previous roles as Course Director for Access to Medicine, A-level Biology, and Level 3 Applied Science, I have extensive experience with the UCAS application system and have a strong track record of helping students secure interviews for medical school.
I also have industrial experience as a food microbiologist and can therefore directly relate the theory to my real life experiences working in Science.
