Advert description
Hello. I have a degree in French with English and am qualified as an English teacher to students of other nationalities. For the past 6 years I have tutored home-schooled students in GCSE English and younger students in general English, often following their fields of interest and helping to build confidence, and to regain a love for language and literature.
I love adapting lessons to suit individual needs and am very conscious of, at times, allowing the student to lead me as regards speed of delivery, homework and topics. I believe that confidence is key to learning and that gaining a rapport with a student is the first step towards this.
I have had taught regular lessons online and also one to one in local schools where students need to boost in learning in a slower and calmer environment.
My students are all on the autistic spectrum and have needs with which I am familiar. Many have struggled at school for various reasons and are continuing their learning at home. I have experience of very shy and anxious students. My own daughter was out of school for 2 years and we worked together at home to keep up to date with learning.
I firmly believe that first and foremost I must work to gain the trust and confidence of a student through communication, listening and careful planning and I really enjoy building a rapport with my students, many of whom I have taught for 2 or3 years.
Some of my students have gone on to take their exams externally and others have been able to return to the school environment after their time out.
