Advert description
I have formal academic English qualifications to A & S Level and a degree in English Law from the University of Bristol. In my career I have nearly 40 years experience in doing legal insurance business with people and organisations from almost every area of economic activity. This has required me to use English in a very accurate and specific way so as to eliminate any chance of misunderstanding.
Running parallel with my business life I have enjoyed a profound love of English for the pure joy of it. This takes the form of a love for literature including novels, plays and poetry. In addition my love and knowledge of history including the history of the English language means I can explain how and why we say and write things the way we do in English.
One important aspect of my teaching is to establish a friendly learning environment in which both student and teacher have a happy friendly on line relationship. This I believe will engender a mutual trust between us. I want to work with students in a teaching relationship where the student feels confident to try their best knowing that they will be encouraged and guided to achieve a good solid command of English to enhance their enjoyment of all aspects of life in an Anglophone environment.
English grammar can be a little daunting to the student at first. However, there are basic structures to English grammar which can be mastered without too much difficulty and equipped as I am with a solid formal education in sentence structure and how to deploy that in conversation or in writing.
Punctuation can be a little puzzling at first but as I mentioned above there are rules which as not difficult to learn. My advantage here is that I had a solid education in which these rules were and I can pass them on if required.
One other aspect of learning English that might interest students might be how the language is used in arts, sports and leisure. I can cater for that if it was appropriate.
In conclusion I hope I will get the chance to work with you to get the most out your English language skills to flourish in an Anglophone society.
Best wishes,
Martin Raynes
