My career as a musician led me to manage a range of interesting personalities in my ensembles, has taken me around the world, and finally led me to academia, earning a BA in ethnomusicology (UCLA) and a MA in Musicology (University of Edinburgh). As a musician I have not only performed and created music, but have also educated individuals of varying ages and backgrounds, by designing individual curricula for private students, or adhering to established curricula within schools. I am a songwriter, band leader, and multi-instrumentalist specialising in guitar. I have performed on numerous recordings, countless concerts, and many domestic and international tours. In addition to guitar, bass and drums, I studied learned Sitar in direct musical lineage of Ravi Shankar, played in the mariachi ensemble under Grammy Award winner Jesús Guzmán, and learned Turkish music on the oud in the Near East Ensemble with the great A.J. Racy, and performed and lectured about American roots music to underserved communities in Los Angeles.
