I help beginners learn fast and advanced players demystify scales, improvisation and technique

INTRODUCTION:

I'm a passionate educator and performer who has taught for over six years. I'm also a Music instructor at a music school where I teach guitar, drums and piano. I studied Jazz guitar (Performance) at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland for 4 years and achieved a BA (hons) in 2019. I gained
extensive knowledge of harmony, improvisation, rhythmic systems, teaching methods, theory, compositional and arranging
techniques. I've
received mentorship and masterclasses from world-renowned instrumentalists and educators which has informed my own teaching
style. I gig regularly in around Scotland playing my own and other people's music. My industry experience gives students an insight into
stagecraft, recording and can be beneficial in supporting students in developing their confidence when performing.

TEACHING APPROACH:

I split my lessons into three parts for all levels; I start by assessing the student's progress on the previous learning and homework set
through questioning and performance, next I tailor the lesson to suit the needs of the learner in achieving their goals. I end the lesson by setting homework that will reinforce the learning that has taken place. For secondary school students I use popular graded music
qualifications such as Rock school, Trinity, ABRSM, and pieces from the SQA curriculum. This gives learners a clear goal to work
towards meaning over time their musicality, technique, theory, and performance ability improve as they advance through each grade.
For primary students and total beginners, I would use songs the learner is familiar with for example nursery rhymes. Keeping it simple,
engaging and achievable for the student.
