Advert description
Hi! I'm Amy and I'm a final year PhD student researching cancer. My undergraduate degree was in immunology so I have a passion for cell biology. I was lucky enough to have had an amazing biology teacher at school who inspired me to learn more about the world around us and I would love to pass on this excitement and passion to the next generation of scientists!
A little bit about me, I have been commended for my clear communication skills teaching research skills to masters, PhD students and researchers in the lab. I have won awards for presentations, talks, posters and commendation for my public speaking. I believe that everyone has the ability to be a scientist, they just need to find the thing that inspires them. I have never enjoyed rote learning and instead try to encourage students to understand topics by asking questions and reframing the problem. I enjoy explaining complex topics with easy to understand metaphors and will always encourage looking at topics creatively. Through my work as a PhD student in the cancer field, I have written many reports for the lay community and so I believe that even the most complex topics can be explained to anyone and everyone (no matter if they have a scientific background or not!)
Additionally, I'm a yoga teacher with trauma awareness training so I understand the power words have and how to communicate with others in a calm and helpful way. I'm proud to say that I always view my students as individuals who could look at a topic a hundred different ways, the important thing is to aid their learning, whatever way works for them!
And remember; there are no stupid questions!
Amy
