Advert description
My upbringing in multiple countries across Asia and Europe has given me a deep appreciation for cultural diversity, and it has instilled in me a fluency in English, Chinese, Cantonese, and Shanghainese.
I have freelanced as an English and Chinese tutor in China ranging from primary school to university students. I learned the steps and criteria for successful language acquisition, which enables me to relate to pupils of all ages. These experiences allowed me to develop a versatile teaching style, adapting to the needs and learning preferences of each one of my students. I strongly believe in creating a positive and engaging learning environment to inspire curiosity and enthusiasm in my students.
During the pandemic, I was accustomed to learning and teaching online. Having been on both the delivering and receiving ends, I am familiar with practices and techniques in lessons through a screen. I understand the challenges as well as opportunities of online learning and I am determined to deliver interactive classes in a virtual setting.
My commitment to education is further demonstrated through long-term volunteer projects, such as tutoring at the Shanghai Baby Home and preparing lessons at the Peace Centre Uganda. These experiences not only honed my communication skills but also deepened my appreciation for different types of students and teaching methods, ranging from children with disabilities to those from third-world environments, thus highlighting the importance of fostering a supportive and inclusive learning space.
