Advert description
I'm a qualified nurse, with an Honours Degree in Anatomy and a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Studies. I hold 150 hour advanced TEFL certification, together with accredited certification in IELTS preparation. I have taught Anatomy to medical students as a postgraduate demonstrator and I have also been an occasional lecturer in The University of Sheffield, helping to deliver what could be described as 'refresher sessions'
in Physiology to experienced nurses on post-registration courses.
I am strongly committed to the concept of equality in society and I believe that TEFL can play an important role by empowering people to achieve their ambitions. With a strong background in Biomedical Science and Nursing, I am well placed to help people who need to improve their standard of English in order to follow academic courses. However, if you just want to improve your conversational English then I can help with that too.
I am very patient, and I understand the obstacles facing mature learners, having been a mature student myself. I like to tailor lessons to the needs of the individual.
For basic and intermediate levels, PPP (Presentation, Production and Practice) is a tried and tested method which allows learners to keep to a formal structure. This can be useful for learning content. I am keen to encourage more advanced students to use their English in real world contexts and applications, so there are opportunities to employ PBL (Project Based Learning) to extract the facts from a given scenario, organize their findings and present them. This type of learning is far more 'open ended' and is compatible with a learner-centred approach.
Working together, we will find the combination of methods which work best for YOU.
Why not get in touch to discuss your needs? Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you.
