Advert description
My name is Becky Riley, I am a retired primary school teacher of 21 years. Although I trained and taught predominantly in the Primary sector, I have also had some recent experience teaching Secondary pupils and GCSE English, as I majored in English as part of my teaching degree. I have always believed that to teach is to touch a life forever and this has been my motto throughout my career.
I came away from the classroom this year to work on a 1-1 basis either in person or online. I have taught Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. Across my 21 years of teaching I have gained a wealth of experience. I have taught mainstream pupils of all abilities as well as pupils with special educational needs. I have had experience teaching dyslexic pupils, my own daughter is dyslexic, I taught her to read when she was 8. I also have experience teaching Autistic and ADHD pupils as well as pupils with SEMH and behavioural difficulties. I have a good understanding of safeguarding and my behavioural management skills are well embedded.
My approach is all about relationship. I like to get to know each pupil I encounter and take time to build a relationship with them, to put them at the centre and understand how they learn best. Once trust and relationship are established, I believe the learning can take place. I tend to play cards, or games before teaching each session as this helps young people feel relaxed before we start learning. I love to read and truly believe this is the key to writing, punctuation, grammar and spelling. I usually either read to or with my pupils, depending on their needs and abilities.
