About Me:
My name is Ilyas Khan, I have just finished my second year of a Maths degree. When I was doing my GCSE’s my teacher and the head of Maths encouraged me to tutor. Not only because of the grades I achieved, but because of how I helped the other students. Since then, I have had 5 more years of studying Maths whilst occasionally tutoring before deciding to prioritise it.
About the lesson:
I try to adapt concepts to match how the student learns.
First, I explain ideas as simply as possible and build off that foundation to develop an understanding.
Next, we will look at examples and encourage the student to attempt the question based off their initial understanding. This helps when I then show them a variety of methods for us to determine which they should master.
I focus on the content first before going into exam preparation, which involves going through past papers and tricks to get marks on the most difficult questions. In my previous tutor work, I have used software such as Miro, which enables both parties to use the same workspace. This is a great tool I will encourage students to use because the student can see me working through an example as if we were in person and vice versa. I typically teach between 1-2 hour lessons, however can be flexible to how the student focuses. I am currently in the second year of my Maths degree so have a fresh understanding of the syllabus. I have tutored 5 students in the past where I helped 3 of them pass their GCSE’s with grade 5 or above. The other two were in years 8 and 9, I helped improve their grades which resulted in them being moved up sets.
