Advert description
I am a highly experienced, adaptable, empathic and dynamic teacher who loves teaching Psychology. I was Head of Psychology at a leading British independent school for 15 years, achieving excellent results. In the academic year 23/24, fifty-six per cent of my students achieved an A*/A grade.
I understand that Psychology can feel overwhelming at the outset as there is a lot of new information to understand. Therefore, my lessons are highly structured, adhering to psychological principles of learning.
Understanding how memory works is crucial for effective teaching and learning, so I ensure information is made memorable by organising it in a meaningful way:
1. How information LOOKS : Use COLOUR/CAPITAL LETTERS/PICTURES/MINDMAPS to highlight key terms (VISUAL ENCODING)
2. How information SOUNDS : (say what you know out loud (ACOUSTIC ENCODING)
3. Do I UNDERSTAND what I have learned? (SEMANTIC ENCODING)
There are many different types of memory including MUSCLE MEMORY, therefore I also like to use ACTIONS to remember key concepts. These are extremely useful for students, particularly those who struggle with conventional methods and like to move around while learning.
I also use MODEL ANSWERS and TEMPLATES to provide students with PLANS that can be learned and modified to suit different exam-style questions.
I am passionate about my subject and look forward to bringing my expertise to students online.
