Preparation for SATS, confidence growing, alternate learning strategies

Advert description
I have a degree in Education and Sports Studies. With 2 years experience in teaching within a primary school across all ages, I was primarily set in the upper years (4, 5 & 6) and would also lead the Physical Education classes across the whole school alongside TA's. Furthermore, I would lead coaching classes as well as tutoring privately to several of the same schoolchildren.

The reasons for tuition were all usually different, some were due to lost confidence, some were preparation for SATS, some were to bridge the gaps when things weren't just sinking in during their lessons.

I always received very grateful feedback from the parents who were delighted with how much progress they made. I usually focused on a learning through play approach, mixed with some practical application to show proof of learning.

I am confident teaching all areas of the curriculum from Year 3-6. I am happy to invest in resources to help teach year 7 and year 8 if they require additional help from certain subjects (I did several placements within Secondary and High Schools.

My lessons would be as engaging as possible, I understand by the time a child sits down, they've usually already had a full day learning, so to open a textbook and throw information to them I find doesn't work. I like to listen about their day while we prepare for learning, so I can understand where any frustration within lessons or difficulty understanding a concept has came from and plan accordingly.

For certain subjects that a child doesn't find interesting, I would try and remove the subject and place this in an entirely different scenario - for example, mathematics. If a child strongly dislikes mathematics and disengages, I would try and take the concepts of their learning (multiplication, division, fractions etc) and apply it into one of their interests, whether that be gaming, art, music, sport etc. I find often explaining or letting a child discover exactly why the subject is useful, particularly helpful with their engagement.

Once they are engaged and actively learning, I'd try and kick every session off with some brief revision of the previous subject just to really give them some confidence that they've mastered it, and to give me feedback that they understand.
