I like to try and encourage learning through play, as rarely do you feel as if you're studying or trying to learn if you're having fun. That being said, a parent or carer wishes to just have a more formal setting for a lesson, I am happy to provide this as well, however I do find it far more effective and engaging for a child to have fun while learning, particularly after a full day of lessons.

My degree was in Education and Sport Studies, with the intention of specialising in Physical education in Secondary and High schools, however during university I enjoyed working in Primary schools so much that my focus changed, and while I still taught the PE for the school, I also delivered the curriculum to years 4,5 and 6 during my time at my last school I worked.

I am happy to provide resources to children or provide facility for finding these to parents if preferred, as I believe some practical application (sample SATS questions) are fantastic for assessing whether learning has taken place.

You'll find and enthused, understanding and engaged tutor who will genuinely care for the learning of your child and try to deliver the best support possible. I've received some very positive feedback from parents of children who I tutored afterschool at my previous employers. The reasons for tuition were all varied and ranged from "gaining confidence" to "SATS support" and "catch up". I was delighted to hear from those parents for the next several years that my intervention and tuition played a big part in their personalities opening up and giving them much needed confidence when it mattered.

While in person, I like to try and remain active during tuition, finding a space to be outside (weather permitted) or finding a place with space to move. This generally keeps the blood flow moving and keeps you from getting tired or disengaged. Within this I've had a lot of success using outdoor chalk for mathematics as it helps visual learners a lot more than a piece of paper. Games with catching can help repetition while learning, times tables etc. for quick arithmetic.

Overall my style of teaching is to get results but to ensure a safe space where a child can be relaxed after a day of learning and cement any learning they're unsure of.

I'm happy to design full lesson plans for children based on parents input, or take the input of the child as to the areas in which they don't feel confident in. This can be short form lessons or can be for an hour long if required. This would be based of the current curriculum which their school adheres too and I'm happy to contact any teachers for further understanding of any key areas they would like assistance with.

I truly believe in the age old adage of "you don't ask you don't get" so I'm happy to take any questions, or constructive criticism. Further more I would love feedback as to how they are getting on within school progressively, so we can nip any issues in the bud straight away.
