I have two years of experience teaching english as a second language abroad and have since been tutoring students in primary schools. I have a bachelor's degree in english literature and have written plays and poems and use writing as a creative tool to allow students to expand and broaden their depth in literature; a method that has proven to help students understand the language as a native would. My three bases of teaching are linguistic; learning grammar, vocabulary and composition, literary; reading fiction, non-fiction, articles and secondary literary sources to expose students to the variety of structured writing allowing them to gain the ability to write expressively, communication; using the vernacular to talk about different topics and interests. My method is to allow students to comprehend the language formally and be able to use it in a professional setting as well as allowing them to understand the informal day to day conversational dialogue and contemporary jargons. I base my teachings on the students level - I have a system consisting of 10 levels that allows the students to see and understand their level and progress - with texts used in TOEFL, GCSE and SAT’s. By the time students reach fluency I expect them to be able to use critical analysis to dissect any form of writing and to be able to create their own opinionated responses and argumentative essays as well as being able to write their own content independently in any form or structure they wish to use.
