I usually deliver in 3 parts. Before class-review the old pieces quickly, this part will spend 2mins telling students what we will learn today and 5 mins to check the homework. First, check whether a student uses the keyboard note, finger note, rhythm and tone correctly. Second, check whether he/she performed well, for example, completely, fluently…But it depends on him/her practice, if works well, the timing will be short. And finally, 3mins to give feedback. As usual, I will ask he/she a question before learning—why do you want to learn the piano? —is it your interest, or your parents want you to learn? This is a very important question, and I am happy to hear they tell me they are interested in it. Because as we know, piano learning should practice independently. This is what the aims and objectives of the lesson are, to let them be familiar with the rhythm and how to find the note in the piano, can read the piece independently while practising after class.
Help them easy to recognise the note on the keyboard, using an Alternate between a knuckle and in-between a knuckle to recognize the note quickly. Finally, the conclusion and homework.
1. Review the piece in class, singing while practising and before.
2. Record a video of the practice and return it to me.
3. Beat the rhythm without melody. (Each note correctly) and return a video to have a check.
4. Practising for at least 10 min. each day.
5. new pieces pre-session follows the list. (Rhythm, separate hand…)
From this lesson, I hope to help a child learn the piano comprehensively, including music theory, sight-reading, and listening, not only in practice. To cultivate their interest in piano and become a musician at the same time, not for artist-level exams, but for their own and achieve some experience and pieces to perform. This is what I think is the important thing in my teaching experience.
