I am a published author of memoir and personal essay and have a keen eye for everything from literary style and voice to sentence structure and story arc. I can also support professional writing and college and university applications as well as study skills for essays and assignments. My lessons revolve around your personal needs and strengths and I am able to equip you with the confidence and skills to improve and become your own teacher. I gently guide and facilitate so you retain control over your own research and creative process. If studying formally then I support you to make sense of the essay question or the assigned task and write toward the requirements for the subject, taking into account the role of grammar and overall structure in the work. If your goal is creative then we look at how to be dynamic and utilise the elements of craft in story telling on the page. I use everything from prompts, visual stimuli, Q&A, examples of other students' work, texts and learning resources to support understanding of literary technique. I am flexible and can support you in ways that are particularly helpful if you are neurodivergent or need additional time to process tasks. I am trained in special educational needs and believe that we all have ways of optimising our learning, some that are still to be discovered.
