I like to use a student based format, where the student feels in control of what they are being taught. It is really important to create dynamic lessons, because the more engaged my students feel, the more they will learn, and the less they will dread revision. I like to try and encourage a genuine passion and love of english, motivating the students in their study. I have been a private tutor for years, tutoring two GCSE students in my local area, and helping one of them boost their grade from a 5 to an 8. English Literature and Language can seem impossible to improve at or understand, but I am here to help guide students, and find unique ways for them to understand. For English Literature, I focus on the study and understanding of specific texts within the course, exploring the themes and context of the texts, as well as specific quotes and techniques explored. I use a lot of active recall, where I will explain a technique and then get them to write a sentence using it, which also greatly helps with their creative writing skills for English Language. I also focus lots on essay structure and writing skills, helping my students present their ideas in a more digestible way to the examiner. For English Language, I like to focus a lot on language devices and structural devices, making sure my students are confident in both using and spotting them. I am also happy to go over exams with students, and offer more personalised feedback than perhaps a teacher could. Ultimately, I tutor for students, finding a method of understanding that works for them.
