Advert description
I am a fully qualified teacher of ten years standing, who has taught a range of ages and ability levels. I have been tutoring online since August 2023 and have familiarised myself with several online meeting platforms and their methods of collaborative learning. I am also a senior examiner for Cambridge International, specialising in I-GCSE English.
I hold a Master's Degree in English Literature and a PGCE (FE), as well as completing a number of teaching CPD courses. Having recently studied the National Autistic Society's Non-Medical Helpers and Mentors course, I am also well placed to offer specialist support to students with autism / autistic students.
My lessons aim to be fun and as interactive as possible. When teaching literature or any textual analysis, I like to run lessons like a university seminar, where students have had time to prepare texts for discussion, rather than a formulaic read through where I say what I think or give out 'the answers'.
Skills-based lessons like Critical Thinking or grammar are taught with a blend of PowerPoints, stimulus texts and test questions, but discussion and interaction remain central. Variety of resources is also very important here. My lessons are usually 60 or 90 minutes long.
During my teaching career, I taught at all levels from SEN and foundation English skills, to Functional Skills and GCSE, and onward to A-level with students aiming for Oxbridge and Russell Group universities. My students were typically aged 16-18 but included adult education students, too. I have been tutoring online for over a year, and here my tutees have ranged from 10-17 in age.
