My lessons are always interactive. At the start of every lesson, assuming the student isn’t confident or isn’t familiar with the topic, I will ask the student questions that test their conceptual understanding of Biology and how it may be applied to the topic we’re about to discuss. This method tends to open the student’s mind to logical reasoning which is prevalent in Biology; and will make the student more likely to understand what they’re about to learn. This also helps me understand their strengths and weaknesses in this particular topic. As the lesson progresses and I have taught the student the content, I will ensure that the student practises active recall frequently both in their personal study time and in my lessons. Active recall is what aided me to achieve both a 9 (A**) in GCSE Biology and an A* in A-Level Biology. I will also give the student exam questions to do either in their spare time or in my lessons, whilst always giving them the opportunity to contact me if they need any assistance. After every lesson I will ask the student to tell me what they’ve learned in a detailed manner with scientific reasoning.
