Somerled Macdonald

About me

Hello! My name is Somerled Macdonald, I am a hardworking scientist that teaches private online lessons in biology. I am very passionate about this subject, and I am eager to share this with students. I believe in making science accessible to everyone in an understandable but fun way. To back my passion in this subject, I hold a degree in Biological Sciences and a Master’s in Animal Behaviour from two of the top universities in the UK, which have allowed to me to acquire a strong knowledge of biology and its processes. I have specialised in Conservation, Ecology and Animal Behaviour but also have a good background in Genetics, Physiology and Molecules & Cells. I am also able to fluently speak 4 languages and can tutor French and Italian for GCSE and A-level.

About my lessons

I am familiar with teaching, as I have had the opportunity to give lectures to fellow students and lecturers throughout my university career. I also worked as a ski instructor for a few seasons coaching young children (ages from 9-14). I aim for my lessons be as dynamic as possible with many chances to discuss elements or theories that have been seen in class and to explore some wider concepts of science. I want to improve students’ understanding of the subject via creative and interactive methods of teaching, combining academic topics and their interests. Naturally, exam prep will also be covered looking at the different criteria necessary to produce a good answer.
