I am well aware that it is not the job of a tutor to entertain students. However, engaging them in the learning process can be less brain draining. Which is why I I have adopted the “Hybring Teaching Style” in training students for over 5years.
This style is an integrated approach to teaching that blends the teacher’s personality and interests with students’ needs and curriculum-appropriate methods.
These are a few online teaching methods I have applied over the years:
1. Pre-recorded Video Tuition: This enables the students learn at their own time and serves as a revision tool.
2. Flipped Classroom: Here, the students are required to review class materials prior to the actual lesson to put what they have learned to test using teacher-guided activities (online quizzes, infographics etc).
3. Game-Based Teaching: This is the method I like to call “Fun- Based Tutoring.” Learning this way has been proven to enhance student (s) engagement and retain attention.
This is one of my most preferred learning method because it helps reduce student (s) anxiety, especially when teaching something complex.
Games help bridge the gaps in interaction between face-to-face learning and online learning.
4. Discussion Forums: These tools provide students the opportunity to share what they have learned, their opinions on which learning method (s) has/have been more effective in learning and what they want to know about others in the classroom, including the tutor.
I am of a school of thought that believes in fun learning. I have taught Mathematics, Basic Science and English in the most fun, yet educating way ever.
